Tour 6 starts by leaving our home base at Jervis Bay and crossing over the Great Dividing Range to Canberra. We then zigzag our way across country New South Wales and outback Queensland, passing through cattle towns and wide open paddocks. Along this section of the trip, encounters with roadtrains (three or more connected semitruck trailers) are common.
After going through the mining towns of Emerald and Clermont we enter Cairns via the Atherton Tablelands. A three day stay in Cairns allows you to see the sights and tourist opportunities on the Great Barrier Reef. There will be time to go snorkeling, scuba diving, whitewater rafting or even a historic train ride up to Karunda and a cable car ride back to Cairns.
Heading south we go through Townsville and arrive at Airlie Beach, gateway to the famous Whitsundays Islands. Our tour then continues down the coast to Brisbane and then to Coolangatta on the Gold Coast.
Crossing back into New South Wales, we head inland along the New England Highway to Tamworth (the country music capital of Australia). Then to the historic
town of Windsor, travelling via the picturesque but winding Putty Road. The Blue Mountains are next on our agenda, visiting the 3 Sisters Lookout at Katoomba and maybe take The Scenic Railway down the mountain and back.
From the mountains we cross to the coast and back to homebase at Jervis Bay.
