Commentary
Tour 4 starts with an easy ride down the south coast of New South Wales through the unique villages and towns of Bateman's Bay and Mogo. We then cross into Victoria staying on Phillip Island with an optional visit to the Fairy Penguin colony.
At Melbourne we catch the Spirit of Tasmania ferry across Bass Strait to Tasmania. Upon arrival in Devenport we start our Apple Isle adventure with a visit to Cradle Mountain where a hike around Lake St Clair will help to stretch the legs. The tour continues to Strahan on the famous Gordon River. From Strahan we travel south east to Tasmania's capital of Hobart. Two days in Hobart gives us a change to visit the convict ruins at Port Arthur and an optional night ghost tour is a must.
We travel north along the east coast through Freycinet National Park, Bicheno, maybe seeing a Tasmanian Devil at the local Wildlife Park. The last day in Tasmania is spent returning to Devenport, along the rugged northeast coast and through the river port of Launceston.
We then catch the ferry back across Bass Strait back to Melbourne where we travel to the Victorian High country along the scenic Snowy Mountains Highway to Tumut. We visit Canberra, our nation's capital, where we do a day of sightseeing. The last part of our tour takes us to Braidwood (a national heritage town), and down the Clyde Mountain, returning to our home base at Jervis Bay.
